MWA COMMITTEES
-
Policy & Research
Chair: Nathaniel Marro
Meeting times: Every other Tuesday at 6 PM EST.
Committee Work: Policy & Research meetings are work sessions and a place for MWA members to gather and dive into specific topics that need further research to help guide discussions, campaigns and committees. The work done here will be used in discussion with elected officials, to help craft legislation, to help steer committee work and create surveys to collect data. Brainstorming and open discussions are often a part of these meetings. Work in these sessions helped inform the Sharing the Risk committee's efforts to get Music Workers access to $200M in NY State funds. All are welcome, no previous research experience is necessary!
-

Economic Justice in the Digital Domain (EJDD)
Chair: Aaron Edgcomb
Meeting times: Third Tuesday of the month at 2:00pm EST over Zoom
Committee Work: The Economic Justice in the Digital Domain (EJDD) Committee focuses on music worker rights and equity online and in the streaming economy. Our work has included representing independent music workers to congresspeople, launching our Streaming Justice! Campaign with the goal of creating substantive change to the online music marketplace, and coalition building amongst a wide range of arts workers organizations. In 2022 we gathered and submitted testimony to the US Copyright Office regarding the DMCA (the law that regulates music copyright online) - MWA's EJDD committee was the only group representing independent music workers to offer testimony regarding this critical statute and sat "across the table" from representatives of the major tech behemoths to defend Music Worker rights. Moving forward EJDD will continue to advocate for workers in the online and its overlapping political spheres.
